Should I Hire a Life Coach?
Hiring a life coach is something that celebrities or ‘other people’ engage with. Is that what you’re thinking right now? Well, you’re right in the sense that behind many of the ‘A list’ crowd and influential business personalities, there’s usually a small team of people they’re working with on a regular basis. And, whose support and insight they value. No surprise then, that it often includes working with a life coach or business coach.
Is working with a life coach right for you?
Let me ask you this; how often do you seek advice and support from friends, colleagues or maybe family on the things that feel important to you? And, how often do you feel frustrated, disappointed or let down when they can’t (or don’t feel able) to offer an objective and constructive way forward that’s right for you?
Of course, we all have ‘off days’ when you feel like nothing is going your way. You know the one’s I’m talking about…..
- You burn your (wholemeal) toast and set the smoke alarm off (yes that’s me)
- The battery’s running low on your phone and you have a conference call in about 10 minute’s time (me again…)
- Your shoe heel gets ripped clean off in the escalator on the underground, when you’re on your way to an important client (yes, it happened to me and I was saved by a kindly receptionist….)
- Emotionally or physically you just don’t feel good and can’t explain why……
Is it time to change your life?
Whilst having an ‘off day’ happens to us all at some point, what do you do when that feeling of having an off day becomes the norm? The days where you feel you are ‘tired of feeling tired’ and have a strong desire to ‘head for hills’?
You feel like things need to change. You want to change your life or transition your career but feel stuck and not sure what to do next.
The great news is that you don’t have to figure things out by yourself, or risk friendships and relationships trying to find a solution. What if instead of ‘wading through treacle’, you consider hiring a coach to help you make that change?
Of course finding the right coach for you is essential. But, whether you’re looking for someone to help you with your health and wellbeing, your business or career, or relationships there’s a great coach out there who can help you. A life coach is there for you at whatever age, life stage or career point you are at.
7 compelling reasons for hiring a life coach:
1. Objectivity
A great life coach isn’t there to rescue you from your own personal drama(s) and the negative habits and emotions that you may be hanging onto.
But, they’re objective and not emotionally attached to what you are experiencing, helping you to discover your own way forward.
2. Great Listening Skills
An experienced and present life coach will actively listen to what you have to say. They’re able to listen without judgement or interrupting to give their own opinion.
3. Powerful Questioning
Your life coach knows how to ask the type of questions that enable a journey of self-exploration, asking questions that help to identify your values and your way of thinking. They provide a constructive and objective way of shifting your mindset to enable you to move forward.
Importantly when they have a conversation with you they’ll be empathic and supportive but ultimately what you’ll hear from them won’t be what you want to hear, rather it’ll be what you need to hear to help you move forward.
4. Respecting Confidentiality
No worries about friends or family accidentally or otherwise letting the proverbial ‘cat out of the bag’. A life coach respects your confidentiality and provides a safe space to explore blocks, challenges and opportunities.
5. Getting Clarity
A life coach can help you ‘unlock the door’ to your full potential, helping you to create a vision of how you want your life to be. How great would that feel?
6. Accountability
Without accountability change won’t happen or if it does it won’t last! A great life coach won’t tell you what to do, but they help you to create an action plan and set time frames for you achieving those actions. They won’t do the work for you – that’s up to you.
7. Support
Keeping a positive mindset can be difficult when you’re on a transformational journey. A life coach is there to support you providing a safe space to talk through the challenges that you may be facing, and find a way forward to overcome them.
